For years, Milton's holiday season mostly came down to one afternoon. Christmas in Crabapple runs four hours on a Saturday in early December. The City says it typically draws about 1,500 people, and its footprint along Broadwell Road is limited. Everyone shows up on the same day, crowds onto the same stretch of road and waits for the same tree lighting at dusk.
This year downtown Crabapple has a second option. The City calls the Wanderlust Food Truck Fest "a totally new, exciting concept for Milton." It puts food trucks, live music and cornhole in Crabapple on Thursday evenings from mid-October into December. Christmas in Crabapple is still the main holiday event. Now it sits inside a run of evenings, and two December weeks each pair a Thursday food truck night with a Saturday city event.
The Saturday everything used to land on
Most residents already know the outline of the main event. The 2026 Christmas in Crabapple is Saturday, December 5, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Broadwell Pavilion, 12615 Broadwell Road. The City's activity list includes:
- Face painting and a balloon artist
- A DJ and live music, including the Milton High chorus
- Ornament decorating, cookie decorating and letters to Santa
- Santa photos with no reservation needed, with professional photos shared free
- The lighting of the City's official Christmas tree at dusk, with holiday singalongs led by local musicians
The City's vendor application page on Eventeny takes applications for one to three food trucks and for activity vendors. It has no general retail market. That fits the setting. About 1,500 people share a limited stretch of Broadwell Road with a handful of trucks, and Wanderlust puts more than a dozen trucks in the same district on five Thursday evenings.
What Wanderlust adds, and why Thursday matters
The City's own pitch for Wanderlust is about a dinner problem more than a holiday one. Its October 6 announcement describes families who can't agree on a cuisine, groups that want to eat out without being "crammed in a restaurant," and church groups or youth sports teams too big for a reservation. The answer is more than a dozen food trucks spread across two Crabapple sites from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.:
- The Market District Crabapple parking lot, where the live music plays
- The gravel area behind Crabapple Market, next to the Green, where cornhole is set up
Admission is free, and you pay each truck for what you order, as the Milton Herald at Appen Media reported when the series opened on October 15. The trucks rotate from one night to the next. As of October 22, the City was still inviting food trucks to sign up for the remaining dates. Check the City calendar or Wanderlust's site the week of each event before choosing a night for a particular truck.
The schedule is what makes this new for Milton. Five Thursday nights is a format, and the City was setting it up before anyone was thinking about the holidays. The series opened October 15 and returns October 29, followed by November 12, December 3 and December 10. The two December dates are what turn a fall food series into part of the holiday calendar.
Two December weeks, each with a Thursday night and a Saturday event
Put the City's dates side by side and you get one pattern in December. Each of the first two full weeks has a Thursday evening in Crabapple and a Saturday morning or afternoon event a short drive away.
| Date | Day | Event | Where | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nov. 7 | Saturday | Veterans Breakfast | City Hall Council Chambers, 2006 Heritage Walk | 9 a.m. |
| Nov. 12 | Thursday | Wanderlust Food Truck Fest | Market District Crabapple and behind Crabapple Market | 4 to 8 p.m. |
| Dec. 3 | Thursday | Wanderlust Food Truck Fest | Same two Crabapple sites | 4 to 8 p.m. |
| Dec. 5 | Saturday | Christmas in Crabapple and Kids Market | Broadwell Pavilion, 12615 Broadwell Road | 2 to 6 p.m. |
| Dec. 10 | Thursday | Wanderlust Food Truck Fest | Same two Crabapple sites | 4 to 8 p.m. |
| Dec. 12 | Saturday | Pancake Breakfast with Santa | Fire Station 44, 13690 Highway 9 | 8 to 11 a.m. |
December 3 and December 5 are two days apart, both in downtown Crabapple. If you want a relaxed evening in Crabapple that week, Thursday's food truck night is likely to be calmer than Saturday's tree lighting. December 10 and December 12 make the second pair. That week the Saturday event moves out of Crabapple to the fire station on Highway 9.
The new part of Christmas in Crabapple is run by kids
Santa and the tree lighting are the event's longtime traditions. The new addition this year is a Kids Market. Young vendors ages 5 to 17 get a table to sell things they designed, baked, crafted or otherwise made themselves. The City is running it with the same group that runs the Kids Market at Crabapple Fest, so families who did the fall market already know the setup. Registration goes through Kids Markets. When the City opened registration on September 4, it warned that the limited footprint on Broadwell Road meant spots would go quickly.
Kids Markets has posted logistics for families with a vendor table. Check-in is a drive-through at Marstrow Drive and Broadwell Road. Vendor parking is at Crabapple Crossing Elementary, about a 0.3-mile walk from the market. These instructions apply to vendors. The City has not posted general parking, shuttle or road-closure plans for Christmas in Crabapple attendees, so check its event page closer to December 5.
For young sellers, the City frames it simply. The Kids Market is a way to earn some holiday money and learn a little about running a business, and the event's usual crowd of about 1,500 means plenty of potential customers.
The two Saturday breakfasts outside Crabapple
Two smaller city events fall outside Crabapple, one early in the season and one late.
Veterans Breakfast, Saturday, November 7, 9 a.m. The City hosts a free breakfast for local veterans and their families in the City Hall Council Chambers at 2006 Heritage Walk. It includes a meal and speakers. The City asks for RSVPs by email, and the contact is listed on the Veterans Breakfast page.
Pancake Breakfast with Santa, Saturday, December 12, 8 to 11 a.m. Milton firefighters serve pancakes and other breakfast food in the bay at Fire Station 44, 13690 Highway 9. One of Santa's elves makes balloon animals, there's a raffle, and the Grinch stops by. No registration is required. You can park at the office complex next to the station or around Stonecreek Church, a short walk away. The event page lists Emily Salerno, the City's Community Outreach Manager, as the contact for questions.
A week-by-week plan
Week of November 2. RSVP for the Veterans Breakfast if someone in your household plans to attend on November 7.
Week of November 9. November 12 is the last Wanderlust night until December. Whatever trucks rotate in, it's an easy weeknight dinner for a group that can't agree on where to eat, which is the case the City built the series around.
Week of November 30. Pick your Crabapple evening. December 3 offers food trucks, live music and cornhole with no tree lighting. December 5 is the bigger afternoon, with Santa photos, the Milton High chorus, the new Kids Market and the tree lighting at dusk. Families with a young vendor should follow the Kids Markets check-in and parking instructions.
Week of December 7. December 10 is the last Wanderlust night of 2026. On December 12, pancakes at Station 44 run until 11 a.m., and parking is next door or near Stonecreek Church.
Between November 12 and December 12, that comes to three Thursday nights in Crabapple, the December 5 tree lighting and two Saturday breakfasts.
A busier downtown Crabapple is one of the things that shapes what a home nearby is worth, along with walking distance to the Green and how the house is actually built.
